How many hours of therapy will my child need?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Recommendation levels vary based on your child’s unique needs, goals, and comprehensive assessment results. Some children benefit from a focused program of a few hours a week to target specific skills, while others benefit from a more comprehensive program. Our priority is finding the right balance that supports your child’s growth without overwhelming your family schedule.
How does ABA work alongside other therapies, like OT or Speech?
Children thrive when their care team is on the same page. We view collaboration as essential. Our team actively coordinates with occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and educators to ensure our strategies complement one another. For example, if your child is working on sensory regulation or fine motor skills in OT, we can integrate those supportive strategies directly into their ABA routines for consistent, holistic care.
Where do sessions take place?
To help your child generalize skills—meaning they can use what they learn in different environments—we offer flexibility. Sessions can take place in our clinic, in your home, or out in community settings to support your child where it is needed most.
Do I need a doctor’s referral to get started?
In most cases, yes. While you can always reach out to us for a private-pay consultation, we do require a referral from your child’s pediatrician if you are planning to go through your insurance.
My child’s pediatrician told me to “wait and see” if my child grows out of it. What should I do?
While some children do catch up on their own, waiting and seeing can often result in losing valuable time during peak periods of brain development. A professional evaluation provides a baseline. If your child is on track, you gain peace of mind. If they are behind, you’ve already started the journey to getting them the help they deserve, and intervention can improve their everyday success.
How long are the therapy sessions?
Speech, occupational, and feeding therapy sessions are typically between 30 minutes and 60 minutes and focus on high-intensity skill-building. Because ABA focuses on behavioral patterns and social skills, sessions are typically longer, ranging from 2-4 hours or more. This allows time for the therapist to work with the child through transitions and across different activities like snack time, play, and structured learning.
How many hours or therapy sessions per week will my child need?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer and it truly depends on the intensity required to see progress. Following an initial assessment, our clinical team will recommend a schedule based on your child’s assessment scores, specific areas of need, and goals. Some children benefit from a few hours of Speech or OT a week, while others may require a more comprehensive ABA program. Think of it like learning a new language; the more “immersion” and practice your child gets, the faster they tend to master the new skills.
How long will my child need therapy?
Because every child’s journey is unique, there is no firm end date for all children. Our goal is never to keep a child in therapy longer than necessary. We discuss progress and goals weekly with the family to monitor success and generalization of skills learned across all settings, and we celebrate “graduation” when they’ve gained the skills to thrive independently.
My child has a specific diagnosis of (Autism, AD/HD, Dyslexia, Sensory Processing Disorder, etc). Are your therapists experienced in this?
Absolutely! Our clinical team is specially trained to work with a wide range of neurodivergent profiles and many of our therapists hold advanced certifications in Autism, AD/HD, Dyslexia, Sensory Processing Disorder, to name a few.
My child is struggling with reading and is getting a D in math. Do you have therapeutic interventions for children with academic challenges?
Yes, we do. While we are a therapy clinic and not a tutoring center, we specialize in treating the underlying clinical reasons to explain a child’s classroom struggles. When a child gets a D in math or struggles to read, it is often a symptom of a deeper foundational challenge that tutoring alone cannot fix. Our therapists are specifically trained to identify and treat the underlying deficits, as well as utilize specialized brain training programs. By addressing root causes we help your child build the internal scaffolding they need to not just just pass a test, but to become a confident, independent learner.
How involved are parents in the therapy process?
You are the expert on your child, and you are our most important partner. We provide regular parent training and weekly check-ins to discuss progress at home and show you the strategies we use in the clinic so that you can use them at home and in the community. Consistency between the clinic and home is the “secret sauce” for long-term success.
